Another week . . .
I've been busier than usual this week, and have not had the opportunity to post anything. Here are the most interesting tidbits and musings:
- Monday - Chief Justice Roberts's official investiture ceremony and first day "on the bench" (sans the gold-stripes on the C.J.'s robe) is overshadowed by President Bush's nomination of Harriet Miers to fill Associate Justice Sandra Day O'Connor's seat. Nobody really knows who Miers is, so conservatives and liberals alike dash off the cliff of skepticism, criticism, and fear.
- Tuesday - President Bush on Harriet Miers "Trust Me." Skepticism continues, but most individuals with any sense take a "wait and see" approach. We simply don't know enough right now.
- Wednesday - The Astros beat the Braves. My co-clerk is thrilled. I assemble two bookshelves in the evening. (what? it can't all be about national news!)
- Thursday - President Bush announces that the U.S. has stopped multiple Al Qaeda plots domestically and abroad since 9/11. The European Union debates stripping the United States of its ownership of the internet. Did anyone else know that the DoC controls the internet? I didn't. Interesting dilemma for foreign countries, and many are calling for the UN to be the proper forum for the debate. Of course, last time I checked the EU didn't have the authority to strip the U.S. of anything. And handing the "issue" to the UN is sure to solve everyone's problems swiftly and favorably.
- Friday - It's friday, enough said!
