Summertime
Okay, not quite summer yet, but with 90 degree days, frizzy hair due to humidity, and the end of "beat the school bus" on the morning commute, it sure seems like it's summer.Hard to believe the "hot" stories of last summer were the War on Terror and the appointment of Supreme Court justices, while this year we are embroiled in stories of the War on Terror and the mid-term elections. To everything there is a season.
My mom's birthday was last weekend and all she wanted for the weekend (besides spending it with me ;-) ) was to visit Mt. Airy, North Carolina. It's claims to fame are three-fold: it boasts the largest surface granite quarry in the world, the original Siamese Twins (Chang and Eng) spent much of their adult lives there, and Andy Griffith was born and raised there. Hence, it's marketing visitors based on Mayberry connections: http://www.mayberry.com. But, really, who could blame them?
It was a fun trip, even if there wasn't a whole lot to do there.
Next up: Boston for the 4th of July. Have I mentioned that I love to travel almost as much as I love to read?
